France transfers VAT registration-related formalities to the INPI portal

On 1 January 2023, the French government transferred all VAT registration, changes of company details and deregistration requests to the online one-stop shop of the INPI, the French National Institute of Industrial Property. Moving forward, such company formalities must be submitted on the portal called ‘formalités entreprises’. However, no changes apply to VAT reporting obligations on the existing impots-gouv platform.

By making taxpayers and agents use the INPI portal, the government is trying to streamline and simplify the management of formalities for businesses. In fact, a year ago the French government also launched a new optional portal referred to as portailpro.gouv.fr, that businesses can start using to manage all their VAT and customs obligations in a single interface.
