Switzerland to increase VAT rates from 2024

The Swiss authorities have announced an increase in all VAT rates from 2024. Following a public referendum that took place in September 2022, the government is going ahead with the approved general VAT rate increase. As such, the standard VAT rate will be increased from 7.7% to 8.1%, the reduced VAT rate from 2.5% to 2.6% and the special rate for accommodation from 3.7% to 3.8%. These new rates apply from 1 January 2024 and will help finance a reform of state pension.
