US Sales Tax

In 2018, US Sales Tax changed in a big way for ecommerce sellers with the introduction of economic nexus. Sellers can trigger nexus upon exceeding thresholds in each of the states as measured by sales or number of transactions in a given time period (usually the preceding 12 months).

You will need to register for US Sales Tax if…

You store inventory

Storing inventory in the United States, even if through a marketplace like Amazon FBA, will create a sales tax payment obligation.

You make substantial sales

Businesses making over $100,000 in sales or 200 separate transactions will create a sales tax obligation in most states.

You have US-based employees

Hiring employees or contractors based in the United States will create a sales tax obligation in most states.
